I’m currently educating myself on privacy and adapting the recommended tools and I’m looking to find resources to educate family and friends as well.
For some of them, language is a barrier so an easy to follow documentary or a video essay etc. that comes with at least English subtitles would be excellent.
They’re at the phase where they have a lot of questions and I either don’t have all the answers (yet) or I’m not the best at explaining. I think for them it would be especially helpful if these resources came with real life examples of how our data has been misused.
Otherwise, if there’s an example that you yourselves can share that I could bring to them, that would be perfect too. I think it is the best way to truly make them understand why privacy is important.
If it is about „how your data can be abused“, definetly check out this short vid. Though it‘s probably not the same situation, still it shows how your data can be drastically misused.
The most important thing for a newcomer to the privacy journey is Threat modeling. DO proper threat modeling. Ask yourself „What do I want to achieve?“ „What are my goals?“ „How much privacy and for what do I need?“
