Following Sports from Mobile Devices?

Any sports fans on PG?

Curious if any users have found a strong compromise between convenience & privacy when it comes to following your favorite sports teams.

Obviously, game content & official broadcasts will be protected & forbidden from retransmission… but scores, records, rosters, news, etc don’t necessarily fall under any legal blockade

Official apps are (unsurprisingly) full of trackers, & only available from Play/iOS. Web apps are usable to various degrees, lack notifications for realtime updates, etc. I havent found anything in the way of third-party aggregators that can substitute the official apps

I used to use mastodon for it when botsin.space was around you could just add those accounts to your RSS feed to get score updates but havent found anything to replace.

You can still use RSS to follow the local beat guys for whatever teams you follow. They will have all the up to date info and a lot of the time post scores of the games as well.

Plain Text Sports could help maybe. Just scores, standings and schedules etc. No news sadly.

I haven’t read the privacy policy or checked the trackers but I would assume it is pretty free of trackers. Super lightweight. I love it!

Also +1 for using RSS to follow sports news.

What sports are you trying to follow specifically and what OS are you on?

not sure if it’s allowed to talk about here, but sailing is an option of course. the official sports apps for me (prime video peacock and nbc) are riddled with trackers and peacock doesn’t even let you use their app with a vpn…sucks tbh. but to see sports scores, i’ve been using fotmob as a PWA. it gets the job done. (i don’t sign in)

It looks there is a Github that offers RSS feeds for Plain Text Sports scores.

Works for me on Capy Reader. I only noticed cause I check the same account for Windows versions of Strawberry Music Player lol
