It’s been a long time problem and crypto currencies unfortunately are not really a suitable solution right now.
The financial system is one major point of failure for freedom and I wonder how this could be overcome without becoming a convoluted process.

In Europe, alternative payment options to the American duopoly Visa/Mastercard are emerging, such as Bizum, Twint, MB Way…
Having options is nice but that’s not changing the issue here, you are only shifting trust.
They are still centralized point of failure which can revoke payments and block your funds.
Crypto currencies got that right, decentralizing the system so no one can freeze your money.
Sadly after all these years cryptos are not widely accepted so they are not a real alternative for online payments and they often suffer too much volatility.
Nothing would change.

I do not have any long-term payment schemes that involve serious commitment. Everything I have now is either month-to-month, or a Costco membership and prepaid phone plan renewed once a year.
I understand and respect that. But that is not practicable for practically anyone.
It is practicable for me, unless you specifically dismiss me as a representative for anyone.
