I know which forms of payment are the most private (cash, Monero, voucher), but is Apple Pay better than most others if you know and okay with your threat model?

Hi.

Hope you’re doing well.

I am really struggling with learning Monero and cash is quite a hassle to pay for a VPN and the idea (and risk) of mailing it quite far away is daunting, even in small amounts.

So, let’s say I pay with Apple Pay, is this any better than credit/debit card or PayPal? Or is every other payment method besides Cash, Monero & voucher about equal in terms of how much data they collect on you?

I’ve been looking at Mullvad, IVPN and Proton, but Proton making it very difficult to pay anonymously with cash or vouchers makes me think what if paying anonymously isn’t something I should be focused on? Is it worth learning Monero or something when I have the convenience of something like Apple Pay?

I am really unsure, so kindly ask if anyone can help with this.

Answering the main question only, no.

Stored for at least 5 years, analyzed and shared with 100s of companies–no it’s not better for my threat model.

Did you see my offer or the message before it? It should clear things up. If it doesn’t, just say where you got confused.

Also, what’s the problem with buying vouchers with a credit card or apply pay if your sole goal is not connecting yourself with the VPN?
