This is the same risk that users took by signing up at the now defunct email service Skiff with a free @skiff.com mail account – and Skiff shutdown, and therefore users have to go to every service they signed up with using their name@skiff.com and change it to something else. If you use your own domain you protect yourself, as long as you renew your domain name every year.
