HUGE User Privacy Breach: dirpy.com

Good morning,

Okay so I’ve got a bunch of high priority tasks that I need to take care of over here at my place, but I dropped everything so I could create this thread ASAP. I feel very guilty because I was the one that said it seemed safe… I even paid for a premium membership when I should have just been using Cobalt.tools instead…:cry::cry::cry:

“Cloud-based video downloader service Dirpy has been found leaking sensitive data on its users, placing them at risk of all sorts of cyberattacks.”

This top online video downloader is exposing user data — and trust us, you don't want some of this data exposed | TechRadar

This was the post where I said it seemed safe. It seemed safe because it was a download service that didn’t require an installation and it was getting reviews verifying its safety for user privacy:

Oh that… sucks.

what did you do to control the damage?

If you have a android phone, try newpipe? ut also offers download (both video and audio).

I use JDownloader 2 as well, but for YouTube to audio, I use yt-dlp to download YouTube videos with audio only.

I was gonna say, why use anything but yt-dlp or Tubular to download YouTube videos?

People google “YouTube downloader” and end up using sites like Dirpy because yt-dlp for sure would not be listed. And it’s surprisingly compatible with other websites, but when it’s not, I use JDownloader2.
