Can someone recommend a working YouTube video downloader for desktop?

I haven’t been able to download YouTube videos for months because Stacher has stopped working and Freetube’s downloader never worked.

I want to download YouTube videos in full resolution with sound and no watermarks.

How do I do that?

All the web downloaders I found only download in SD, and the few that download in HD have no sound.

Would appreciate your help.

PS: I need something that doesn’t involve CLI.

This CLI tool is probably the most sturdy and stable tool available for such purpose: GitHub - yt-dlp/yt-dlp: A feature-rich command-line audio/video downloader

Any kind of not too shady frontend based on it could be decent I suppose?

Saw the edit, glad I wrote the second part of my answer. :speak_no_evil_monkey::face_without_mouth:

Grayjay mobile works great for me. :+1:t2:

You can use Video DownloadHelper:

Firefox add-on:

This isn’t a software recommendation (some good options have already been mentioned). It’s just a more general safety recommendation: avoid using free websites online to handle your files (converting, compressing, etc.), or in your case, downloading videos. Unfortunately, many of those sites trick you into downloading malware without you realizing it and are often run by scammers and criminals.

So just a quick heads-up :+1:

Thank you so much for this! It was extremely useful! I found an app on it that works!

I’m on PC, but appreciate your help.

I’m aware of VideoDownloadeHelper, and have had it installed in one of my FF profiles.
Admittedly, I never tried it with YouTube so thanks!

I appreciate the advice. You’ve all been extremely helpful!

Which app answered and solved your issue from the list exactly?

YoutubeDownloader.

At first, I tried YT-DLG, but it wouldn’t let me download 1080p videos in MP4, only WebP.
MP4 videos were only available in SD. That’s when I tried YouTubeDownloader, which worked allowed me to download 1080p videos in MP4.

If YouTube asks for age verification, can yt-dlp bypass it?

I don’t know. I don’t think I’ve ever tried to download an age restricted video. At least not recently.

This is only necessary for content that requires an account to access, such as private playlists, age-restricted videos and members-only content.

You need to use your youtube account cookie.

I am not sure, I know it is tricky. If you try a few of the online YouTube downloaders in my link I have found that many will download age restricted content that you can’t even browse normally without an account.
