Fake Post Deletes and Still No Action After Two Months

It’s been 2 months since the last deletion request was sent to the @jonah account. Clearly nothing has happened. Shouldn’t this process be automated so people don’t have to be surprised by unexpected manual inaction months later?

While waiting, seemingly in vain, I have also noticed posts deleted on this forum are never actually deleted. The text of the posts are simply edited to say (post deleted by author), but the entire history of the post, even for so called deleted accounts, including any private information that may have been leaked, remain accessible and visible through the pencil edit icon.

There’s nothing “private” here. You can only edit or delete something to help others understand you better. I suggest you live with this axiom.

In the meantime, to help our super sensitive community members, here’s a quick trick. Let me know here how well it works.

You can edit your post and then delete it. When you view your post history, an outside observer will see the edited version and the deleted post label.

This thread may be informative to you.

As far as i know edit history is now disabled, so only forum mods can see the edits a poster has made.

The reality is that posts here are public anyways, and so it is trivial for anyone to archive posts. At best, deleting posts provides a false sense of security. The best policy is to not share PII or anything which you may later come to regret. this topic.

edit: apparently others archive topics here fairly regularly. see here.

I think an important thing to take away from this, other than the true nature of “deleted” posts, is that it’s been 2 months that a deletion request has not been responded to.

As Privacy Guides gets bigger and bigger, more support will be needed to maintain it. I am hoping that Jonah and the rest of the team can handle it, as I love how bigger Privacy Guides is getting.

I wonder about how they feel about hiring forum moderators, especially because they want to work more on moderation.

Exactly, and since this reply is possible, clearly nothing has changed since opening this thread and the last repeated request to @jonah.

@jonah What’s going on? It’s been 3 months now. Is the notification system of this forum busted?

What exactly do you want deleted?

The account.

Just to make sure, you want your account “pgp” to be removed?
Is it ok to anonymize the account and leave your posts online (they will all have a different account name)?

Yes, and this entire topic deleted too. It should never have been created in the first place but after two months of the odd Delete Account message system you guys have being ignored, here it is.
