DuckDuckGo Web Browser

On iOS, any app that can browse the web is restricted to using an Apple-provided WebKit framework, so a browser like Brave does not use the Chromium engine like its counterparts on other operating systems

TY
Got it now

Although @SkewedZeppelin’s post doesn’t really seem to refer to this.
I most probably misunderstand.

All browsers on iOS use the Webview, so it’s alright from this aspect. Not sure how good they do on other stuff though, like tracker blocking and fingerprinting resistance.

noticed that Brave on iOS blocks ads, popups AND blocks youtube ads and one can have some content filtering like removing annoyances and yt shorts and distractions etc.. afaik Safari doesn’t have that right?

even with uBOL, probably not.

So there is a reason to use anything other than safari on ios…

I think that either @SkewedZeppelin possibly misunderstood the scope of your question, or you misunderstood their answer (because they didn’t state which part of your question they were responding to)

Not sure about uBOL but my recollection is that Safari + Adguard Pro on iOS can block:

(1) ads (and trackers) :white_check_mark:
(2) popups :white_check_mark:,:white_check_mark:
(3) youtube ads :white_check_mark:
(4) annoyances :white_check_mark:
(5) hide yt shorts :check_box_with_check: (edit: the ‘block elements on this page’ feature seems capable of hiding shorts, but I only tested it briefly)

I hope that uBOL will be able to do the same or more.

Thx.

So adguard pro is not free right?

And when u say Ubol. It’s not released yet?

Shorts you can’t hide but there are free and paid ways to do it
Just keep in mind I guess if you’re searching you’re not getting rid of shorts easily but you can get rid of it elsewhere otherwise.

If you got a few bucks to spare: ‎UnTrap for YouTube App - App Store

If you don’t got a few bucks and you use safari, Safari has a built “Hide Distracting Items” which you can utilize to get rid of shorts

Adguard is free and you could theoretically use the free filtering to block it but I’ve never had success and just paid the few bucks to save myself the hassle

It was either adguard pro or Untrap for me and I went with the second layer, either way money was involved

If you wanna pay with your time you can utilize the hide distracting items as I mentioned

Brave solves all this out of box. (And removes shorts and distractions). I don’t use iOS anyway but I recommend Brave to those who do. Just wanted to address the point that there is NO reason to use anything other than Safari on iOS. There is.

Brave on iOS does not have the option to block YouTube distracting elements

Otherwise I wouldn’t have gone with Untrap let alone try with filtering

even without that option there still is a reason to use it and not Safari.

What is the reason, why not safari? What are you implying?

I was originally responding to @SkewedZeppelin . Because I ALWAYS see this comment: “on iOS there’s no reason to use anything other than Safari”. But clearly there is.

Correct. There is a free version but it is not quite as effective.

And when u say Ubol. It’s not released yet?

I haven’t personally used it on iOS, but it is already available:

It might be clear to you, but it isn’t clear to all of us. What is the clear reason?

What Brave does, out of the box (in addition to removing shorts) compared to Safari.

Brave Android or Brave iOS, because as I said it is not on iOS

Brave iOS. Blocks YT ads and removes shorts and distracting elements and related videos.

there still is a reason to use [Brave] and not Safari.

But clearly there is [a reason to use Brave instead of Safari]

What Brave does, out of the box

What Brave does out of the box compared to Safari.

Could you try to be more specific?

You keep alluding to an advantage but not outright stating in clear terms what that advantage is (compared to safari + a decent adblocker)?

Are you simply referring to the (perceived) convenience of not having to install a browser extension? If so, I don’t see how that is any easier than having to install an alternative browser. Both can be accomplished in a few seconds to minutes.
