Apple Maps now available on the web

… on the proper https://maps.apple.com/ domain (but technically still in beta).

I guess this counts as a relatively private alternative to Google Maps:

This has been available for a while now… not news but yes, relatively private alternative. For accurate directions and info on things, I’d still rather use Google Maps in a separate PWA I have made for it.

Doesn’t seem to support public transportation yet but cool development. Regardless of privacy I am just happy to see more competiton here.

It was on beta.maps.apple.com for a year or so, not sure when exactly they made the switch.

Hmm. My best guess is that people thought beta is still too unstable and wanted some uniformity or simplicity with the URL.

I just get “your browser isn’t supported” using “vanilla” Firefox on Linux. Even though they say the support Firefox… Maps on the web is compatible with these web browsers - Apple Support Maybe they’re blocking Linux?

@Regime6045
yep, both vanilla Chromium and Firefox under Linux show me the same unsupported browser message with no errors in console.
It loads if you spoof the user agent to Windows however.

At least it no longer blocks mobile user agents.
