Anyone care to share Anti-doxxing tips?

Hey hey hey all,

Been thinking a lot lately about how easy it is to get doxxed these days. Seeing it in the media, and as a trend in social media… of course tiktok. Between data brokers, old social media posts, leaked databases, and reverse image search, it feels like the surface area just keeps growing.

I’ve done the basics (opted out of the big people-search sites, locked down socials, started using aliases + masked emails, separate phone number for accounts), but I’m sure I’m missing stuff.

So I am very curious what’s worked for you:

  • Any underrated data broker removal services or DIY guides?

  • How do you handle old accounts you can’t remember signing up for?

  • Tips for scrubbing photos/metadata before posting?

  • Anything you wish you’d done before you needed to?

No.. I am personally not dealing with an active situation, just trying to be proactive since we’re also working to launch tools in the space to help with these very issues. Appreciate any wisdom :folded_hands:

Some great questions here. I’m afraid I can’t answer most of them as I don’t participate in the social media project but hopefully others can assist there. Those sort of networking sites are dreadful, in my opinion.

FWIW:

  • Alias for each and every use. One e-mail address for each sign up
  • Different password for each and every sign up
  • Prevent trackers as much as possible, including not only via browser but also within e-mails
  • Use DNS blockers
  • Use a browser that prevents fingerprinting

This is by no means meant to be exhaustive, nor specific. There are many other options such as de-Googling and so on.

Sounds like you’re making some good attempts! Best of luck with it.
