Recently came across this. Doesn’t it kind of seem odd, that 1password is straying from its business model.
I am not a 1Password user. I just find it odd and many people use it and recommended by PG. Maybe you should reconsider the listing by some discussion ?
It’s critical to consider that instead of just enabling the 1Password extension for Comet users, 1Password made it a full partnership and promoted the browser to its users. As a trusted security company, 1Password shouldn’t have anything to do with a company like Perplexity, whose plans for Comet are quite disturbing. There are also many people who trust 1Password and could switch to Comet because of this. So, what this partnership achieves is worse privacy for everyone. I have also written a blog post that discusses this topic further.
OnePassword clearly hopped on the AI train. While I’m sad to see this partnership happen for such a trusted company, it would be even more of a dealbreaker if they actually integrated Perplexity AI or ad “hyper-targeting” into it.
Then again, I did expect this to happen for the corporate password managers out there. Security does not always mean privacy folks!
It seems like only companies that started with Privacy in mind will cater to users. Avoiding VC funded companies is the only way to safeguard our data.
