1Password using codex to "one shot" features in production

In the video, CTO of 1Password admits the team “one shots” features up to production.

Feels like a slap in the face after an enormous price hike, which I hesitantly accepted. If the price is not a guarantee to avoid “vibe coding”, i’ll probably switch to something cheaper.

Paying 60$ for a password manager makes no sense. I mean what does it cost them to host my 30MB (A stretch if you add files. Imagine paying that much to host 1 mb of text) of data… Their main focus these days is Business customers. So charging this much to individual customers makes no sense. VC investments are showing up now. I would never use a Pass manager coded by AI. This is the stupidest thing every.

They think this is what customers want to hear?

Edit: Just noticed it’s not a 1Password clip but an OpenAI clip.

What does it mean to “one shot” a feature? Does it mean they half-ass it? \

The collab with OpenAI is irksome and disqualifying.

My subscription hasn’t expired yet, but I don’t want to renew it either. However, I feel like I have no choice because I can’t find a similar alternative that meets my needs. I already have a paid subscription to Proton Pass, so that’s where I will go if I leave 1P, but Proton is still missing a few things for me.

I truly thought that with the price hike enough of us could come together and pressure 1Password to reverse their decision. Part of me would like to believe there is still time for that to happen.

Since 1Password 8, there have been so many bugs that have yet to be fixed. I have raised these issues multiple times with support, but they are not interested in fixing them. And yet, they think a price hike is justified.

I’m close to the point of rooting for 1Password to fail as a company.

Clearly it means that the AI implements the feature Perfectly ™ on the first prompt, no unit tests, code review, or security audits needed, because that is how our AI overlord coders always do things. (/s)

I see. Yeah, it’s incredibly disappointing. I hate that so many companies buy into the AI hype and try to sell it to us as benefit. What’s worse is that it works. Recently, I’ve seen numerous videos and podcasts suggested in my feeds about how “the left hates AI” and “Gen Z hates AI” but that is not the impression I am getting in the real world.

In my corner of the earth, all the people I know like using AI and are impressed by it. They use it in their personal life and at work.

I don’t hate AI, I use it in my daily work almost all the time. But for some reason I do not believe “one shoting” features for production - in an app which is so damn sensitive as a password manager - is a good thing. They could just keep AI for the “red team” like using Mythos to find security flaws.
