Just an update to this post,
I eventually got jmp.chat working and registered. I honestly have no idea how I did it, the process was super confusing and convoluted. But I now have a number (US) and outgoing text works. I haven’t yet checked if it works for online services for registering and verification and such. Hopefully the number isn’t blacklisted.
