Volunteer Opportunity: Help out on social media!

No personal social media account required

Despite all the stuff we publish here lately, the bulk of Privacy Guides has always been volunteer and community driven. One of the trickiest parts of getting people to join here and learn more about consumer privacy, cybersecurity, and digital consumer rights is competing with the constant onslaught of other stuff people are shown when they open their social apps on their phone. Maybe you can help! :index_pointing_at_the_viewer:

How it works

  1. You post to our Buffer.com account
  2. Freddy, Jordan, or I adds your post to the queue
  3. More people learn about privacy :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Things to post

We don’t have to go crazy here! If you’re not sure what to post, it can be as simple as:

  1. Taking a page from privacyguides.org and writing a sentence or two about why people should read it.
  2. Finding a cool forum post here people might’ve missed and sharing it with our followers.
  3. Posting about some interesting news or current event you’ve seen recently.
  4. Reposting an older article or video from Privacy Guides that should see the light of day again.

Where can I sign up?

Just DM me…

  1. an email address
  2. the first thing you’re excited to post about
  3. any social media experience you have (if applicable, not necessary)

…and I will email you a Buffer.com invite

If I were to sign up, would I have to stop sharing or posting news stories here since I already do what you say in the ā€œThings to postā€ section. Or would I share as usual here but also share to the Buffer account queue that you will selectively broadcast as you want?

I’m a tad confused. Sorry.

Oh yeah. Things on Buffer get shared to:

  • Mastodon
  • Twitter
  • Bluesky
  • Threads

So, totally separate from here

Actually you could definitely share links to your forum threads via Buffer though!

I see.

To be clear, I continue posting as usual as I do here. And then share the threads/links of my forum posts here or anything else I may find interesting from/in the privacy and cybersecurity realm and to your Buffer for you to broadcast further.

Do I have that right? I’m double checking to clarify ambiguity I am feeling on my end.

Yes! If you’d like to help out with posting to our social media platforms that would totally work.

I think we mainly use social media to post things that have broad appeal or impact to a lot of people, whereas some of the topics on this forum might be more niche or relevant only to people who are already in the community, so that’s the only thing to keep in mind probably

General reminder to read our writing style and brand guidelines as well. As volunteers, you will be representing Privacy Guides so keep that in mind. Everything you make will be sent to Jonah and Freddy to review anyways, so don’t worry too much about getting things right at first!
