VeraCrypt not being updated for almost a year

They are releasing pre-releases, most recently VeraCrypt / Forums / General Discussion: Release Candidate 1.26.13 Released

I consider this a Release Candidate for the official version that will succeed 1.26.7 after nearly one year. Therefore, tests and feedback are welcome.

And they removed RIPEMD-160 hash algorithm and the GOST89 encryption algorithm since version 1.26 @dngray

Why people still believe Truecrypt is much better than Veracrypt?

Wouldn’t consider him an expert. A lot of what he says is pretty dated and stuck in the 90s around some products he sells. What he says or doesn’t say about Truecrypt, is as irrelevant as anyone else as he isn’t a cryptographer nor does his background give him any special knowledge on the topic.
