Unmentioned Softwares/Services

Greetings everyone, my name is Neil!

I recently finished reading almost all of the PrivacyGuides.net, well, everything! Now I know this is not an interdiction post, so I wont say too much more, here is my question:

What are some software’s/services mentioned that where not talked about in the privacy guides that YOU, as a forum user would recommend for your own reasons! Everyone has something to say, so please be nice please!

Best,
Neil Oliver

I like Posteo for your email, calendar, and contacts as a service for you to choose. You can enable encryption + you can pay with cash so it’s anonymous sign ups. And with 1 EUR per month, you can’t ask for anything better. This for those who may not want encrypted email and a significantly more affordable non big tech option.

I also learned about Koofr for your cloud storage service that you can buy anonymously or privately which you can coupled with Cryptomator rivals any other encrypted cloud storage service available. And they have affordable plans too.

Kagi Search and its products/features are great and am liking them a lot.

one of the most useful pieces of software not recommended by Privacy Guides that I still recommend to others, and use myself is LocalSend, which is one of the best, cross platform, local file transfer applications I have found over the years.

Syncthing is better because you don’t have to turn off your VPN for it to work. You can still share files, docs, etc.

LocalSend is a great option too. Not saying it’s not.

Syncthing is great, but I’ve found it can be a little complex for non technical users at times

True. I was scared for years before I finally said fuck it and tried it. I felt stupid for not trying it earlier because the set up was relatively easy and I was irrationally scared.

Before I switched to Linux I really appreciated Quantum to help update ports on qBittorent while using ProtonVPN.

For RSS I really like Capy Reader on Android and RSS Guard for Windows.

If we are allowed to suggest :pirate_flag: tools I would also reccomend DuckStreams and Duck Guides.

Really bummed they have started to force people to use an account if you are not self-hosting.

I’m eagerly awaiting Tor-VPN leaving beta .

On another note, you mentioning VSCodium reminded me that i would be remiss if i failed to mention that I use Emacs. Though i guess this might technically already be recommended by Privacy Guides, since they recommend Org-mode.

Woah there. These are open source tools that do not host or allow any illegal content.

TY for those guides, I’ll check out duckstreams.

 of course my mistake.

DuckStreams is well worth a look if you want a simple set it and forget it style setup for Stremio, especially if you use TorBox or Debridio

What?
If this is a true I was not aware of it.

I only use my own RustDesk instance.
