How is it with privacy?
From a privacy and security perspective I would recommend against Mega based upon some of the issues they have had I the past.
For reference checkout: MEGA (Cloud Storage) which also provides links to their topics and coverage of this service.
Are there any good options for file sharing other then self-hosting?
That depends on what your needs are. I know some folks in this community quite like Proton Drive, though Iāve found that to not be the most convenient/best UX.
I donāt do much direct file sharing, so other than what I said above my privacy respecting file sharing recommendation knowledge is a little rusty.
I think you mean Privacy Guides: Independent Privacy & Security Resources
I use pCloud for storage and am happy with the product: GDPR. At one point I was given the option to migrate my data from a US to an EU data centre, which I thought was good customer service.
I see Nextcloud under filesharing, but it does a whole host of things (notes, calls, music, photos, etc.)
Iām currently trying out the https://uruky.com/ search engine, which does require an account, but itās just a number, similar to when you pay for Mullvad VPN.
Thanks for drawing my attention to all those recommendations again. Itās such a comprehensive list!
Reading through, I wonder why iPhones donāt get a mention under Hardware-mobile phones. Iāve never owned one, but whenever privacy and mobile is discussed I always hear that just getting an iPhone is not a bad option.
Yes I looked through this before subscribing. There is some pretty blatant prejudice there but also some valid points, overall worth reading imo for anyone looking into using it.
