Why did you get locked out of your Proton account?
Even though I only use it for aliases, by default, my recommendation to anyone who needs a PW manager would be Proton Pass. My second would have probably been BitWarden, but at this point, I don’t know if that’s still a good choice.
The reason for these recommendations is because, both Proton Pass and BitWarden are open sourced, and have rich free versions that can let people determine if it’s the good choice for them. I would hope that that is still the case.
If one was going to pay for a password manager, and was willing to spend $36, I would tell them to either go for Proton Pass or 1Password. Yes, I know the latter is not open sourced and has its own issues but IMO, they still have the best UI & UX.
I would also warn any paying Proton Pass users of its shortcomings, like the fact that Proton doesn’t allow more than 1 alias per third party website. That means that if you have 2 Instagram accounts, you can only use a Proton/SimpleLogin alias for one of them.
