Unavoidable proprietry apps

Wht if it’s hard to avoid apps those are not foss, eg: Food Apps, Study (local coaching),etc, I’ve been slowly replacing proprietry apps for time being, but now have stuck. Wht solution could be of this?

  1. keeping these apps in work profile? Will keeping these apps in work profile with my personal stuff (in work profile) is good idea? Can android make more than 2 compartments via shelter? So I could keep non foss apps in them

  2. I use Rethink DNS, it’s firewall block apps, but it’s pause feature do not allow to use blocked app in time of need, u have to manually get in app and enable internet for those apps

Hope anyone reply and will guide, thanks

Its a bit unreasonable and much to expect to be able to replace all apps you find valuable to FOSS alternatives. There is a huge market gap for FOSS apps to make alternatives to many popular and proprietary ones. We are not there yet nor will ever be (not to sound pessimistic but only pragmatic) because they often have monetization issues. Wish it wasn’t the case however, obviously.

Your first solution idea is likely best I feel but it also depends on what you’re trying to avoid with proprietary apps.

No real solutions if you as me as I see the state of things.

Those are my views. And welcome to the forum!

Banking Apps.

They want your browsing habits and other metadata. I should keep it on a separate phone at home with no other apps. I don’t think it matters much if it’s iOS or Android at this point. Its a bit too much but I think is the sane way, albeit a bit pricey.

I don’t install any proprietary apps and instead use the web apps. Limited permissions which you can control from a browser. Not every app has a web app though so YMMV.
