I think it slows down discussion of tools considerably that some sort of form isn’t used as the basis for the post.
To me, it seems like there are too many times that tool suggestions are created where the original poster has no clue what the criteria is or if the tool they are proposing meets it.
I think having user fill out a form for their suggestions, will prompt users to be more diligent about their proposals. This will create more effective suggestions.
As an example, the form could be something as simple as…
Name and url of tool:
Reason to add/remove tool:
how does the tool meet or not meet the criteria listed on PG (please provide relevant sources):
I admit, I didn’t realize this and I have done two tool suggestion posts myself. I think this is probably part of the issue. Just a quick perusal of the more recent tool suggestions and it seems like the majority of users did not use the form. Not only that there isn’t anyone (staff or otherwise) mentioning the fact that there is a form and that the posts lack information.
Looking at the form now I think the big thing that should be added is having the user directly respond to the criteria for that tool, ie how does this suggestion meet or not meet the criteria listed.
To me, I think the best thing that could be done is enforcement. Users should not be allowed to get away with posting a tool suggestion without showing any sort of effort to figure out what the criteria to add that tool is or if that tool meets that criteria.
