[Student] Application for making flash cards?

Hello,

As a student I’m already using some privacy oriented apps (like Notesnook for taking notes, etc.) but I’d like to know if there’s any good app for making flash cards (offline or sync), I don’t have any criteria since I have control of what I’m writing or adding.

Thanks !

Anki?

Logseq also supports flashcards, although I never tried it

One of the bigger decision is probably deciding if you would want the flashcards integrated into the note taking software or having it separate.

A. If you don’t have that many flashcards, I would recommend to keep it simple and go for a standalone flashcards solution like Anki. If you are also working with other students it’s probably easier to share flashcards by using a dedicated software.

B. On the other hand if you have lots of flashcards there are some benefits to using integrated solution. The first thing is less time spent converting the notes into flashcards. The second is when updating information you only have to do it one place and can be sure that the information is the newest.

Did a quick online search, and doesn’t seem like Notesnook support flashcards. With this in mind option A is easier for getting started, but in the long run you could consider option B and switch to another integrated solution.

One thing to note if you’ve gone with Anki: The synchronisation is not end-to-end encrypted. For this reason, I only ever use Anki on one computer.

Try using Syncthing to synchronize the Anki decks/configuration.

Check out ForgetMeNot. While it’s text only, the design is much more modern. The project doesn’t seem maintained anymore, but it still works well as an offline flashcard app.

Emacs also has a flashcards plugin, which should integrate nicely with org mode though I haven’t tried it yet
