Step Counting App for Android

I’m looking for a simple step counting app for android (GrapheneOS) similar to Health on iOS.

I found an app called Paseo which looks okay but I haven’t seen many people mention it. Do you know this app? Does it seem trustworthy?

Do you have any other recommendations?

I’m new to android and GrapheneOS so I don’t know how those kinds of apps work. Do I need to give it special permissions (like unrestricted battery access) for it to always count steps in the background?

“Pedometer” works fine. Yes you should give it unrestricted battery and sensors permission.

I use Grapheneos too and this app doesn’t ask for network permissions, so it doesn’t upload anything to anyone. You can use it with ease of mind and permit the permissions they ask for; i think battery optimization should be off). There also is an app called Stepsy, which has been updated a few days ago, instead of in the beginning of the year. That one also doesn’t ask for network permissions. they offer roughly the same.

Tl;dr: the app is safe. You can also take a look at Stepsy, They offer the same.

Paseo is good, but these overall are a bit inaccurate. eg. they’ll count steps when driving.

Basically they all use the system step counter sensor and depending on device it may be better or worse.

For precise counts one could simply get a fitness watch and disable bluetooth.

Thanks. Will take a look at Pedometer too.

Thank you. Do you have a link for Stepsy?

Here is the link: Stepsy: Step Counter - IzzyOnDroid F-Droid Repository. I have no experience with either apps, because I use a Garmin watch synced with Gadgetbridge.
