Some thoughts about privacy worldwide

I recently wrote a post about my concerns regarding laws such as the OSA, and after spending some time worrying about the idea of internet freedom being suppressed, I came to a conclusion that may seem a little optimistic.

Namely, I believe that these laws (as they stand now) will be temporary. I think that over time, the most aggressive aspects regarding privacy will be softened or even removed. The EFF and other organizations are trying to do this.

People will enter a process of surveillance fatigue, similar to the AI fatigue that many are feeling, and that many Windows users are feeling with the crap made by Microslop. And I believe that it will be at this point that they will be more likely to seek alternatives, and we can help them better understand digital privacy (even if it is minimal).

Even if this is a possibility in the future, we still need to act in the present, and even if one of us lives in a country where a law protecting children online is being enforced, we need to stand up and move forward.

Unfortunately, I believe that this will happen more quickly in countries such as those in Europe, the USA, Canada, etc. Poorer countries such as those in Latin America may take longer, as the population already has many problems and ends up not realising this. Even so, the important thing is to stand up, resist, and never give up.

What you think about this post? I would like to know your feelings about it.

I believe only awareness, digital literacy, and quality secular education (in school and upbringing at home) elevates people’s minds such that critical thinking is a natural part of their lives and decision making process with all things. That’s it. That’s what we need more.

The mind numbing nature of all social media that everyone succumbs to and seemingly hedonistically doom-scrolls needs to stop first along with not only worrying about surviving but also living.

These two things I feel are the two major problems that act as hindrances to “growing up”, making more rational choices, and just living better. These two things should not only fix what you’re talking about but many other things.

Lack of digital literacy is not a unique problem but the solution for it is also the solution for many other issues.

I wish I could share your optimism, but the overall trend continues going from bad to worse. Especially as the general populace becomes more ignorant, more indoctrinated, more distracted, more afraid, more self-centered, and more compliant. And governments become more draconian, Orwellian, corrupt, and technocratic. Sauron has no incentive to shut his eye.

Our ancestors probably can’t read, burn woman for being a witch, commit “holy war”, working in lord field while said lord whipping them and can’t do anything to government. No appeal, can’t sue. You die. That’s it

Yeah. At worst, we are just fine.

more compliant

Protests in France. Riots in the Indonesia . Revolutions in the Middle East. People complain constantly. Pretty sure Humanity is at all time low of being compliant to authority.
