So in Europe, it's impossible to get a Phone number without giving out personal info?

it’s not impossible but not everyone can that’s for sure.

In my country for example, you can still buy prepaid sim cards physically on Kiosks but at that

I remember when I would get one for signal, I think I got raised eyebrow by the cashiers but as always did get along which goes to show what we have come as society.

Now not everyone has this privilege unfortunately and that’s really bad.

I see. It’s possible that the laws have changed in the UK, but when I researched it, I didn’t find any information about a new regulation passing. I also follow various privacy watchdogs that are based in the UK, and I don’t recall them mentioning anything.

That being said, here is what I know.

The UK doesn’t have any national ID system. Hence, it seems to me that from what you described, their KYC requirement for SIM registration is quite easy to fake. You can provide a fake name, with fake address (hotel), and a fake e-mail (alias). If they ask for proof of address, that can be faked too if they don’t require a utility bill. You can go to any invoice website and create an invoice from a fake company addressed to the fake person you created.

Are you serious?! That is shocking to me. I know a lot of poeople who forget to update their online account when they change phone numbers. That is a stupid rule IMO. Especially if you have 2FA via app or U2F enabled.

I hear you, but remember that even if you acquire a phone number anonymously, using the same anonymous number for multiple services compromises your anonymity. If you can, use a different number for every service.

That sucks. Is it absolutely a must that the number be from your country?
It’s better for privacy to use a number that is not in your country.

I hate that. I once asked a friend to buy me something, and I explicitly instructed her to use cash. This is a close friend and she was buying me a voucher that can be used to pay for a lot of things, including video games. I wanted her to buy me $100 worth.

She said she felt uncomfrotable carrying $100 cash on her, which to me sounded insane. This is the kind of resistance you can run into when you have to rely one somene else. It’s frustrating, especially when you’re not doing anything shady. I get it from my own family too.

Seem total BS to me, this is from an account “foolclown” so…

As of right now, yes, you don’t need verification. Unless you’re expecting a SIM card delivery, you can just put a business address on your account.
