Should I encrypt my backup?

So I’ve already encrypted my computer, however I do have a physical hard drive (HDD) that I back up to, which is unencrypted and easily accessible by just plugging it in. I don’t really have a good place to secure the drive, so I was wondering if it is a good idea to encrypt this backup. For reference, I live in a home with multiple other people. I also am using file history as my method of backing up. I am unfortunately not in the financial state to afford other redundant measures like cloud storage.

Yes.

You can keep it at a bank vault. They’re usually the most reliable place to store backups. Encrypt HDD tho.

Yes the backup should also be encrypted. There is no point in encrypting your computer but not the backup.

I finally encrypted my backup via veracrypt, which took about a week. Unfortunately Windows File History doesn’t seem to work anymore. Trying to reconnect the drive results in windows creating a new backup folder and trying to backup everything from the ground up. I do not know how to fix this so that it can just go off of the original backup folder (if it can be fixed).

I depends what kind of backup is this. If is just some simple file backup of full OS backup?

Simple File Backup. Just been using File History, and it cannot seem to recognize the folder it created for backups after encryption, so it tries to create a new one.

I’m not familiar with that app. I used Vera Crypt container on external USB drive, which I open and then using FreeFileSync or Sycrovery replace files in the backup. Or mirror folder from my PC. I know that these two are OK.
I’m looking for some sort of apps that do full system searchable backups (eg. veem), but no luck so far.

Oh, bit of misunderstanding. I meant that I have been using Windows File History
