Hello everyone! First of all, I’m new here and I would like to say Hello! I discovered Private Guides not too long ago and it is a great relief to finally have found a website that doesn’t seem to be sponsored by a VPN and to see a discussion platform outside of Reddit.
I have been searching for months without luck and that’s why I’m writing here on the forum. Does anyone know of Canadian solutions to be able to have a VoIP number that works in Canada for account verification on major platforms? There are solutions in the United States like Burnerapp that can provide verified numbers, but the option is not available in Canada “You are also only able to purchase US Verified Numbers. Unfortunately, we don’t have a way to source Canadian Verified Numbers. - Burner app”
The same applies for a virtual credit card or a prepaid card. In the United States, there are solutions like MySudo or Privacy-dot-com, but I haven’t found anything for Canada. “Virtual cards available in the United States only at this time.”
The goal is to be able to register to certain platforms like Gmail to be able to sign in to other services with them since today, many websites do not allow you to register via an email address. The only option is often to register by signing in with an existent account like Google, X, etc. I don’t know if I’m clear?
I imagine this is a more effective way for them to fight against bots, but I find it invasive.
Discord is also a privacy nightmare. I just want to be able to use it without them constantly asking me for my number.
For the credit card, being able to make purchases online with the peace of mind that the bank will not directly see all my transactions in detail would be a blessing. I think a prepaid card is more appropriate for this task? The goal is also to be able to cancel the number or the card in the event of a fraud.
Thank you very much in advance! I have been searching for months now. I feel alone and desperate in my research.
There is one thing I am confused about in your help request.
To my knowledge, Canada is one of the remaining few countries where ID verification / registration is not required for prepaid SIM cards. If this is still the case, what is stopping you from simply buying a prepaid sim card to register any “Anonymous” online account?
Obviously, I don’t recommend using the same number for various services, but you seem to have options.
On a side note, one thing I have often wondered is if it’s safe to use a unique phone number to register an online account if you will likely lose access to my number, My guess as long as you have 2FA via app or U2F on, you will likely never be forced to verify your phone number again.
What does that mean? Is it like Skype? I remember a long time ago I linked my real phone number to my Skype account, so when I called real phone number from Skype, they would see my phone number as the contact ID. People who know me and haved my number saved, would see my name, and those who don’t wouldn’t see the number.
When I moved cities, I changed numbers, but I deliberately never unlinked my old phone number from my Skype account, so that any stranger I called would see that number instead of no number. However, to my disappointment, after a few years, my old number was no longer linked to my Skype account, even though I never unlinked it. I also have zero doubt that whoever took over my number linked it to a Skype account.
Not all VOIP services support this (I dont believe skype works this way), but JMP.chat which I use does. Like when you switch carriers, you port your number to the new carrier, you can port your number to voip so that the number is actually transfered to the voip service, and you continue owning the number through them
I see. Can anyone in the world use JMP.chat or is it only for people in the US & Canada.
IMO, if one should be able to have a US number even if they don’t live there.
jmp.chat only offers US&Canada phone numbers. No extra cost for international sms but slight price change in international calls depending on the counrty.
