Kagi has also many great features, but the cons are heavier than the pros and I think it is the same case with SP.
Ads are fine, but clicking Microsoft ads that track you and infer what you’re searching for is something else entirely. However, all of these Bing-based “search engines” are forced to use Microsoft’s advertising network in accordance with their terms of use:
Do not:
- Display data received from the Search APIs on the same page as content from any general web search engine, large language models or advertising network.
It would be good to recommend search engines that use a more privacy-respecting advertising network.
I don’t know how Brave Search fares, but it likely has a better chance at this as they use their own advertising network.

Sent Startpage another email. Doubt they’ll do anything about it at this point, though.
Three weeks, no response as I expected. Don’t really know what else to do at this point.
The fact is that nobody mentions these cons of Startpage anywhere it is recommended.
that is worrisome, You sure they received your email properly?
No way they didn’t receive it. I still received the automated reply saying my ticket number (56175) and that the email “has been received”, which is enough confirmation that this ticket is in their system; I just never got an actual reply to my ticket.
I know that I’m just speculating if it somehow got lost in transit or something, probably not.
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it, but that feature is really useful for websites that block Tor.
