Is it arguably better privacy-wise to use Reddit through its API, rather than old.reddit.com, given the latter can still employ behavioral tracking (e.g. how long you hover over a post) ? If you were to use the API, they would only see that you’ve fetched posts, upvoted something or fetched the comments under a post.
If you can live without posting, you can use Redlib. For posting, you can try and find your community on Lemmy, a Reddit alternative.

You’d be shifting the trust factor to a less reputable third-party. Redlib itself does not log anything in production builds, which is verifiable. That’s not the case for somebody else’s instance – you never know what’s in the backend.
Lemmy is a lot less popular and that’s an issue especially when it comes to niche communities. Moreover, its decentralized nature suffers from the aforementioned issue of shifting trust to somebody who can not be held up to scrutiny the same way a company could be.
I had high hopes for Lemmy in the beginning. Sure, it’s more private than Reddit, but it’s still a censored mess which makes it not much better than reddit imo
