Nope, I unlinked my Proton account and then re-added it but in Proton Pass sync is still there.
Yes, but if you don’t have an account linked the sync itself doesn’t work and you don’t risk to delete your SL aliases in Proton Pass.
But SL needs to be linked to my Proton account to get the Premium ![]()
this might be kind of silly to do but…
you could create a new proton account, have SL forward to that account and that account forward to your paid account.
This way the account linked with the your proton pass is not the same as your SL account.
problem is you would need to re-arrange your subs a bit as you wouldn’t be able to get SL premium through Proton.
I have no intention to pay extra 36 USD to SL for their mistake you know
I am already subbed to Proton Family which costs a lot.
I need to find another trusted provider for my aliases.
Also, I can’t imagine what would I do if all of my aliases were on SL domains. I don’t think I could recover from that easily.
Yeah.. I am pretty sure that I won’t be renewing my Proton Family account on Jan 2026, but considering the cost and privacy benefits, it will be hard to find another provider.
Addy is good. Their new app is great as well ![]()
I’m sorry this happened to you. I am reading your post a year later because a similar problem just happened to me. I am not ready to go into details yet because the issue is not resolved, and I have yet to hear back from Proton. The fact that this is happening during the holidays when responses are slow makes it even more frustrating.
What I can share is this, Proton synced my Proton Pass and SL Logins aliases without my consent. I did not ask them to do this. A Proton Support agent just did it in an attempt to fix/investigate a problem I reported. They didn’t tell me what they were doing, and it didn’t fix the problem. I am very upset.
It is also my understanding that the sync cannot be undone, but I came here to ask if you are 100% sure because in my case I did not do the sync or ask Proton to do it. They did it without my consent, and without warning me first. I’m so angry. ![]()

The sync is automatic, cant stop it. Cos it isnt really a sync. ProtonPass aliasing is just a frontend for SL
If you deleted aliases from Proton, you can recover them from SL. There’s a separate recycling can that doesnt empty for ~60 days. Login with your proton credentials
I think you are misunderstanding what I am talking about. The sync is not automatic. By default, your Simple Login aliases are not managed in Proton Pass. In order to do that, you have to manually enable it. I deliberately did not. Proton Support synced my Proton Pass and SL aliases, so that I could see and manage my SL aliases in Proton Pass. I did not ask them to do that. They did it without my consent. Hence, why I want to know if it can be undone.
I’m admittedly parroting information wrt the sync, I dont have much further insight to offer there
So far as the deleted aliases go, I did suffer this problem; was able to restore them from SL alias trash, even though Proton believed them to be deleted:
Will leave this here for future travellers
No worries. ![]()
For clarity, I myself, don’t have any issues with my aliases being deleted. I didn’t delete any of my aliases. My issue is that Proton synced my Proton Pass and SL aliases without my consent, which I don’t appreciate. I hope it can be undone, but it doesn’t seem likely.
The fundamental issue imo is that Simple Login is still technically its own separate service. I really wished Proton properly integrated SL into Pass or made it into a proper Proton service like Proton Aliases so that it could all be under one platform. Their hide-my-email alias service is confusing to me. All of this is confusing to me, and I feel like I have to manually try out the features in order to understand how they all work, which should not be the case imo.
On a separate note, does anyone know if we need to connect a paid Proton account to SL in order to use hide-my-email aliases? Or can we use it without SL? I want to generate a random alias in Pass like how we can in SL, but Pass just prompts me to manually name it instead.
Yes, most people do not realize that SimpleLogin and Proton Pass are separate services. They are not one and the same, even if the latter depends on the former, and if premium access to one, gives your premium access to the other. That is intentional on Proton’s part. Proton wants people who are only interested in Simple Login to be able to use it without Proton Pass. At least that’s what they told me.
