Questions about Firefox extensions

Not really. It’s good to have, but not a must. You can get a long way with DNS blocking which is more secure than MV2 content blocker extensions. Vanadium’s security is better than all other browsers on Android, especially on Google Pixels 8/Pro with MTE.

Privacy and security are not the same

From what I have heard the consensus seems to be: just use uBlock Origin, I use it on medium mode (I used this as a guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lisQQmWQkY).

The ublock origin documentation has great guides for medium/hard/easy mode

Based on the wiki article on FF extensions shared earlier I removed some extensions. It sounds like uBO is mostly all-encompassing but require a deeper understanding to leverage properly.

Here is a rough outline of my current understanding/changes, feel free to correct where I’m off-base:
uBlock Origin - Has the most functionality/depth and worthwhile to deep dive into
Privacy Badger - Default functionality is similar to uBO offerings, but the advanced heuristics option is better, but comes at the cost of increased fingerprinting and is disabled by default as a result. Better to just use uBO so I removed it
Clearurl - Removed it and added this url-related blocklist to uBO
decentraleyes - Removed since uBO does most of this too.

Two questions come to mind:

  1. Is this a moot point if I also use niche extensions such as self-hosted solutions like linkding/wallabag, qwacky to create DDG email aliases, Midnight Lizard for dark mode, Video Speed Controller for faster video playback, etc? I’m guessing removing the extensions is reducing my attack surface & increasing my load speed if nothing else.
  2. I’m assuming there is heavy overlap between Enhanced Protection Tracker (on strict) and uBO, but it’s best to keep both on. Came someone confirm this as well?
