Edit 2: there appear to be a few reddit threads discussing this (1)(2). Users seem to feel the outage is more widespread that Proton is alleging (whether you trust reddit users is another question entirely)

Update - We are currently dealing with residual hardware failures that are likely related to the damage suffered from the overheating incident last week. They had a major outage just a few days ago, and during that time, I decided that since PG put out their password tier list anyway, now would be a good time for me to switch password managers.
I’d love to switch to Keepassium bc I have the lifetime license of it. Downside is I’m looking at using my Linux laptop more so not quite as seemless as iCloud sync…
I was in a very similar boat with you on Keepassium. I should mention, I do have some redundancy in case of something like this, so it wasn’t that much of a hassle, however, the passkeys, that was definitely a problem. It’s kind of wild that proton doesn’t let you export those.
Agh you feel me. I’ve slowly been migrating all of my services to Proton, even doing a lot of Docs and storage management. At least my calendar is still with Apple and accessible…
I know this sort of thing happens and I know they’re working to fix it, but I don’t think this has happened with my iCloud setup in the past decade.
Doesn’t affect me that much since the 2 proton product i use are simplelogin alias and protonpass. Incoming mail to sl should be retried later by the sending server, not that I’ve got important alias on sl anyway so those mail can wait. Pass, at least on android is read only last time they’re down last week so autofill etc should still work, just no edit existing entry and no new entry can be made.
On linux use KeePassXC (Keepassium uses keepass kdbx database).
Secure database with both password and key file.
Store database in icloud drive. Move key file to linux from ios/macos on usb drive or by usb cable.
Sync/mount icloud drive by
