That is indeed awesome. I wish my country and banks did the same.
Maybe you could write a mail to your goverment offical and ask them to open source the software.
Public money ā Public code
Unfortunately, I feel there is not such a thing here ![]()
Get a calendar app if you want such features tbh. ![]()
Obsidian can do that but itās a PKM in the first place. ![]()
Give a try maybe, itās easier than ever to get started as of today!
If you like it, maybe learn a bit more of it: for simple tasks it can be amazing alongside an LLM. Just donāt do sensitive security things without some theory to back it up. ![]()
could. All depends on you.
Plenty of solutions that are real sync and not ālet me run around with my floppy diskā going from naive git sync into CouchDB instant updates (just as good as the real official sync).
Also, the files are just stored in .md hence you can use any kind of sync that you already have like Syncthing, Nexcloud or alike.
Yes, should. Doesnāt mean they are as of today.
And the data will anyway be stored somewhere where you have no control over.
Fancy! ![]()
Shoulds could reinvent the world. Reality is a different topic altogether and I would be very curious to know if the person paying you will comply with a gentle
Yo boss, wire me some Monero next month please, hereās my wallet
Yet, the world runs different for a variety of reasons.
So yes, you canāt 100% FOSS-ify your life, thatās just how things are.
Am I happy with it? No.
Have I made a truce with that? Definitely.
Pragmatism is a good thing rather than fighting lost battles. ![]()
That is why I left Proton Calendar.
Very annoying and unintuitive UX⦠My family hates that one too.
Could be nice to just have it working/importing like Gmail but eh. ![]()
Hopefully, a few other cool options exist around. ![]()
I even tried that. My best bet was the Apple Calendar without iCloud sync, but it does not export .ics files for backing up. Any recommendations on offline calendar apps that exports .ics and notifies on events?
Oh, on iOS I donāt remember/know.
But I guess that if you have a Radicale server, then you could use some FOSS client to consume it.
There is definitely something like davx5 for iOS if you search on the forum I think.
Otherwise, PWAs can also send notifications if open in a browser.
Quite some work for sure, but probably better suited than Obsidian and probably working with less friction once setup.
In the EU its a possibility that they will introduce CBDCs, and GNU Taler would be the perfect software to implement CBDSs in a way that respects the userās security, privacy and freedom.
Iāll be the first one to be very happy about that one trust me. ![]()
I use Nextcloud. It has built in calendar and tasks compatible with caldav, I also store my Obsidian vaults there. Thereās a built in notes app that can be used to edit notes on the web but I donāt use it.
I keep reading and hearing good things about Nextcloud. Is it a viable Google Docs/MS 365 replacement? Are the files generated fully compatible with Google Docs and MS Office in terms of formatting? I find this to be important as even though privacy and security are important, the formatting of the documents is important due to the dominance of Google and Microsoftās software. It doesnāt help if the files I create are not usable by my colleagues or friends if they donāt use Nextcloud.
I know devs need food too, but I did a quick search and I donāt see anything about self-hosting requiring a fee. In fact, Iām reading that self-hosting gets all of the Pro features for free. Of course, Iāll have to invest in the hardware and time to set it up.
Not sure about full compatibility, but I can edit docx files from the Nextcloud web interface (Collabora Online)
s it a viable Google Docs/MS 365 replacement?
Give it a quick try yourself, barrier to entry is quite low. ![]()
Is Notesnook reliable and reputable? Mobile apps as well? I keep hearing Joplin is worth considering. Iām currently using Standard Notes, but I wouldnāt mind transitioning to something better, especially if I could self-host it.
Iāve been using Notesnook for 9 months and Iāll be going to a paid tier once I some Monero. Itās about 70 Euros through Digital Goods by ProxyStore There very few additional features with a Pro account, I just want to support the company. Both the Android and Linux apps work well and are stable. There are tons of formatting options. Try it out, wouldnāt cost anything but a little bit of time.
I did give Joplin a try before Notesnook and my experience wasnāt good. Sync wasnāt included, at the time, with Joplinās free tier but Syncthing was supposed to be an option. Unfortunately, syncing through Syncthing didnāt always work. When sync did work, I spent too much time deleting duplicate documents due to sync conflicts to really enjoy the app.
Itās been years since I used Standard Notes so I canāt offer a comparison.
Perhaps have a quick look at Anytype. Itās a local first, peer to peer app that seems to be like a notion rival. So it does have a lot of features like tasks and reminders from memory

Then you questions is answered?
It seemed like you where complaining that they charge you
Iāll have a look
Not quite. I canāt self host at this moment.
Then buy their subscription and support their work
- ātemporarilyā because Iāve been waiting for the reminder feature and the recurring task feature of Anytype.
I sincerely apologize for not answering your comment above @icue
Thank you both for the recommendation. I really liked the app, and I really feel it will be the best choice and everything I was looking for once it releases the reminder feature.
