I need to create a Patreon for a community I am forming. I do not want my real identity to be known to the public. If Patreon were to have a data breach, my personal information would be exposed, but if I created a virtual card with privacy.com, would this hide my identity from Patreon, or do they require personal information as well? If not, wouldn’t having privacy.com just offload the trust to them instead of Pateon to not have data breaches? If so, who would be safer to trust? I just signed up for privacy.com and am having “buyer’s remorse” so to speak. Part of me is worried I just unnecessarily risked my opsec by signing up. Thoughts?
I’d read up on what personal info they require for creator account creation, but the unavoidable issue is receiving payouts. Privacy.com uses virtual cards which seem like they can only be used for purchases:
Virtual cards allow you to minimize the amount of personally identifiable information (PII) you share with places you buy at.
Patreon has the following payout options:
Depending on your payout country, you can choose from one of the following payout options:
Direct deposit via Stripe (US payout country) PayPal Payoneer (Outside of the US only)
I’d go read my answer to this recent similar post on being an anonymous paid content creator:
Ok, well I created a privacy.com account for nothing then; and gave them my full name, address, phone number and social security. Can I delete my account and data from them?
It can still be useful for other purchases if you want financial privacy and don’t want to use the cryptocurrency Monero
It is still recommended you use Privacy.com if you care about your privacy in general.
