Sorry to post this here, but I don’t have Reddit, Twitter and Patreon and would like to encourage The Hated One to accept Monero payments or maybe Liberapay but I don’t want to register on Patreon and ruin my privacy just for him. Also it would be great if he could post on PeerTube or on a website. Maybe someone can forward this. I hope he will see the post anyway.
I would argue that if you already have a bank account with all your juicy personal details, what’s another data point? Having an account on Patreon would enable you to support a lot of Projects and content creators.
Its currently graded “C” over on TOSDR, not good but not exactly bad…
I agree content creators in this space should be accepting Monero. I’d suggest looking through non-profit products you use and whether they accept anonymous donations. I believe Tor Project and Signal both accept cryptocurrency, but there’s probably many more listed on Privacy Guides.
Is he even active on this forum? You may want to find another way to contact the channel
Best way would probably be to comment on his channel.
He used to have a Monero address in the description of his videos. I don’t see that anymore. So he is aware of that payment method and decided to ditch it for whatever reason.
lmao you need a Google account for that…
A lot of people seem to disagree with me but, it is sort of a mature thing to have a bank account, have credit cards and have a good credit score - that in of itself is extremely bad for privacy but it has always been this way even before the surveillance capitalism waking nightmare that we live in right now. It is mandated by law and bank do have to protect themselves from fraud and do have to positively identify you. There seems to be no other sane way forward for a win-win scenario for banking and privacy. One has to lose. You can deal with cash but my recent visit to the US has shown me, not every store support cash.
Now moving on to Patreon. It is a monetization platform that works like, but is different from, Paypal to support most YouTube and FOSS projects (there are other I have heard like Ko-Fi). You can always help in non-monetary ways by sharing video links to YT but since, AFAIK, The Hated One (THO from now on) isn’t allowing ads on his channel, that does not directly help, you can only truly help by sharing if the people you have shared the link with is actually interested in paying for Patreon (that wouldn’t have happened if not for your sharing of video).
Patreon seems to be the only one available for giving money to the content creator. I am sure he has thought of other methods and it seems that this is probably the least privacy invasive and the least friction to implement.
You cannot force THO to look for other means, be it cryptocurrency or other means. You can simply enjoy the content that comes out… and appreciate the irony that if you want to support him, you give up a little more privacy. Its fine…
In the end, we all cant live like hermits in the city, especially if you have your own family. Lets hope in the end, where it mattered, we didnt give up too much of our privacy. There still has to be a private life that we have to keep private - if paying to Patreon makes the life better, so be it. Its fine.
True. But even privacy advocates have to use commercial platforms to let people know about their work. There are ways to create a Google account anonymously.
No. But you can always ask.
@em just recently wrote a fantastic article on how to navigate this specific dichotomy.
Have you considered trying a virtual credit card with Patreon if they exist where you are?
In the US there is Privacy.com, but also prepaid credit cards that you can buy with cash. In Europe, there are a few banks that offer virtual credit cards too.
Do you also donate money to other millionaires? Why would you donate to someone with ~500k subscribers? You make less than him.
Since not every YouTuber with 456’000 subscribers is millionaire, give me the source of your information please.
You know nothing about me.
Also, your claim seem unfounded because Patreon shows that he makes less 1700$ per month.
Please don’t publish sensationalist informations without source.
He accepts crypto, but not Monero. BitChute- The Hated One.
