Peergos Android app and v1.1.0 release

We have just cut a new release of Peergos, v1.1.0, which includes an Android app and a new “shared” page, which shows everything you’ve shared or made secret links to.

The download links and Google play link are here: Download

Some unique features in Peergos:

  • Encrypted URLs when you’re logged in don’t leak anything in your browser history
  • Revocable secret links
  • Federated, self-authenticating p2p protocol - friend and share with anyone on any server
  • Offline login and read-only access without leaking anything to a device compromise when you’re not logged in

I was mainly interested in calendar, is there a way to try it out first?

maybe give out free invite codes for PrivacyGuides community?

You can try it out for free either by self hosting which takes only a minute or two to setup, or by using our demo server. https://peergos-demo.net

Great to see Peergos coming to Android as an app

Right now it does not seem to do more than when accessing it through the browser. Which features are planned to be added?

I would be especially interested in seeing interaction with Android’s storage via two-way sync for files, calendar and contacts.

This first version is essentially the same as the web interface yes, but with much stronger security (a compromised server can’t deliver you a compromised client).

We plan to add Peergos as a native DocumentsProvider and also enable our existing 2-way sync client, a new 1-way backup and local webdav in the future.

Awesome. I already use peergos.net, but not having sync on Android was a stopper for me to move everything over from my other cloud services. Once two-way sync is there, it is time to use Peergos as my main cloud. I could imagine that other security conscious users who value end-to-end encryption would also consider using it.

whats the user/pass?

Just create an account there (choose a username and password).

Hello, thanks for Peergos and its innovative approach. I just tried to use the trial on an android phone and a Linux PC with Proton vpn active, and It does not connect to the login Page. Do you have any suggestions? Best regards

What browser are you using? We can’t see any issue reaching the page with firefox or chrome on proton vpn on llinux.

Hi, thanks. I am using Brave. Today, in the evening I will follow your suggestion and try Firefox

It also loads fine for us in Brave, so I don’t think that is the problem.

Thanks for tour super prompt response! I Just tried with my Android phone and VPN on; with Chrome It works, with Brave It does not. Maybe I should check my brave settings. Thanks !

Great work Peergos!! Do you have plans to create an iOS app? If so, what timeline to the best of your ability to predict it? It’s one thing for me to switch over to using something as my main product, I like to get everyone to switch over and many people use iOS for what it’s worth. Thank you!

Yes, our focus for the forseeable future is on mobile apps. It is hard to put a timeline on it though as Apple doesn’t support some of the basic web features we rely on for 3rd party app sandboxing like localhost subdomains, so we will need workarounds for iOS. However, those are our foci.

Thank you for the reply! Do you think the iOS app will be this year? I know it’s hard to put a timeline on it but just curious if I should become a customer now or wait. I don’t really need the service until I can also get iOS access (and there is no free account) but I also don’t mind supporting the development since the price is reasonable.

I would hope so yes, but will be at least a few months.
