Secure and private alternative to Syncthing (or the clients i use)

Hey there!

I’m since a year into advances for privacy and more secure alternatives for everything i use, including file synchronization between my phone and my computer.

Currently, i’m using a unmodified configuration of Syncthing - with Syncthing-Fork V2 on a Google Pixel 9a running GrapheneOS and SyncTrayzor on Windows (i have my reasons to not use Linux just yet) - to synchronize the folders on Android to an external storage attached to my computer and until a month ago, this setup has been pretty solid.

However, i start getting more and more problems which causes the setup to get out of sync and having to redo the connection between both devices every week or so, and i’m getting tired of it, and unfortunately every cloud app i’ve seen (like Filen or Proton Drive) or use because i’m subscribed to it (Tresorit) only allows you to synchronize photos and albums on Android and even if it did, it doesn’t provide me a solution to synchronize to something on my local network.

So my question is if someone has an alternative to a Syncthing setup like that that allows me to automatically synchronize folders and files on my Android device to an external storage attached to my computer, or a NAS in the future, preferably which might also work with desktop linux distros in the future?
Or maybe someone even knows alternative Syncthing clients for Windows, Android and preferably Linux that works more reliable than these?

Thanks in advance!

I like Koofr. They have very affordable plans and you can buy anonymously. So, this should work for what you’re looking for.

Yep. I use Koofr with Cryptomator. This way works really well on all OSs.

Maybe Peergos Sync? It’s open-source, you can self-host it or register a paid account.

S3Drive supports bidirectional sync I believe. You’d need to set up access to your NAS in such a way that your phone can connect through rclone or S3 (like SFTP or WebDav or something). You could use rclone directly or through various UI wrappers on your computer (or just use S3Drive there too).

Another option might be to use GitSync on your phone and commit changes on your computer either directly through git or by using a similar app that works on Windows (to automatically create commits for you when it detects changes). You’d also need access to your NAS remotely for this to work, maybe by using something like Tailscale, NetBird, Nebula, etc.

Thanks for all the replies already! Koofr probably is not the solution i want to use since i already have a cloud storage solution where i synchronize the folders and backups from my local backup storage that my phone has saved to via Syncthing.

But S3Drive and GitSync i’d give a go and see how this works out! Thank you again for the answers!

Well, with Koofr + Cryptomator as an option, you’d have to give up Syncthing. But you know about your set up and use case better.
