Another self hosted E2EE notebook I’ve been looking at is called outline (https://www.getoutline.com/), I would be interested to know everyone’s thoughts on it.
That was posted a little more than 3 years ago so I wouldn’t necessarily hold out hope.
Outline isn’t E2EE.
Not a thought about Outline specifically, but I’m not convinced these types of knowledge management tools actually work. In my experience, they are unintuitive, take ages to configure/setup, and in the end still take more time and energy to use than a simple to-do list.
Their documents say otherwise? Security.
I’m personally okay with Joplin, but as it doesn’t encrypt data at rest I’m unable to use it, I need something that can sit on a VPS and be encrypted, but have a web app. Trillium is on my list, but I’m still looking at other options.
They have in-transit encryption and at-rest encryption. Both types are distinct from end-to-end encryption since neither prevents the service provider from decrypting the contents if they wish. For notes, like with passwords, I would consider end-to-end encryption to be an absolutely non-negotiable necessity.
What do you use personally? I’ve looked into Secured Notes, but client side features are locked behind a paywall even when you self host.
I was trying Anytype a couple months ago but as I discussed above, realised that I hated it. Right now I’m using Obsidian.
Zed looks cool, but unfortunately wouldn’t meet my needs. The search continues!
SiYuan is great, I don’t know if you’ve considered it before. Whiteboard feature is coming as well.
Looks like that has changed though?
