I received an email for beta invite of Anytype. It’s open to everyone. I had a look at their mobile app which is promising for beta release. It’s open source, E2EE, and funded by a Swiss organisation. What are your initial thoughts? https://anytype.io/

In the Skiff thread, a lot of the discussion was around how to avoid recommending companies that can do a 180 on their users. Data longevity or being able to use the app after the company goes under isn’t really the main point of discussion here IMO. It’s how to avoid situations like with Skiff whe…

[image] anon21489307: If this happens to Anytype, nothing will happen What will happen is PG will remove another service from their recommendations and will look stupid. The more situations like this happens the less credible PG look like. Let Anytype prove itself first, then it’ll make sence…

[image] anon21489307: Yes, given the license, the only limitation is commercial use Nice catch. That’s still a significant downside imo and if Anytype fails, that probably means development will stop (since another company can’t make a profit off of it). Does anyone know of any alternatives…

I just want to chime here what y’all think about Anytype in it current situation. Is worth and ready for recommendation? It’s open source and e2ee notion alternative. The only downside may be the steep learning curve if you wanna make the most of software. Still, you can start its basic functionali…

[image] Tech-Trooper: open source As mentioned previously, it is not open source

Tbh, I did not find the PG’s stance on the website with regard to open source. I searched but maybe it’s under some under sections. @jonah But it’s hard to claim it is not open source as well. Under Perens’ definition, open source is a broad software license that makes source code available to th…

The anytype license restricts the use of the software and thus violates the Open Source Initiative’s definition of open source (they decide which licenses are officially open source): The Open Source Definition – Open Source Initiative No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor The license mus…
