We only can see the date of the latest reply, not the original posting date. Sometime, when an old thread pops up because of a recent reply, it would appear as new “breaking news”.
It should be indicated in the feed that it is old.

If you don’t care about replies you can bookmark https://discuss.privacyguides.net/latest?order=created to sort by post creation date.
I might care about replies, but I should know that the topic isn’t new.
I experienced this just now with a Bitwarden post, thinking it was very recent.
I wonder if there is a way to put the original date (like month + year) somewhere near the title or tags area in small font?
For post older than a month, I think it could be put below the category section.
Not to my knowledge, but if anyone knows of a Discourse theme component which adds this functionality I’d be happy to add it. It doesn’t appear to be a configurable setting that could be changed without a custom component.
I have experienced this problem as well tbh. I would just say that those who are regulars (trust level 3) can consider adding [OLD] or smth to the title if necessary.
I would really prefer not to do that since edits would also bump the post lol
I did just discover that if you hover over the activity timestamp on a post it shows the created date though, if that is useful to anyone.
I suppose but I find this is mainly a problem when a post appears at the top of the feed because it is already being discussed for some other reason.
To me I never have a problem with this because if there is a recent post then it probably must be relevant since otherwise why would someone post a reply? I’ll want to read that reply either way… so I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the actual problem here. It scrolls you down to the latest unread reply so you don’t need to wade through a ton of old posts.
If there is a certain type of post we want to see this noted on, maybe there is a tag we can create that moderators/regulars can then add to a post? This would have the same bumping problem since it’s also an edit, but at least it would be much better than editing the title.
It’s not actually a massive issue but sometimes a topic is both relevant and being actively discussed while having a title which portrays a sense of urgency which was appropriate when it was originally posted. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find a good example of this right now.
Here is an example. Commission unveils ProtectEU – a new European Internal Security Strategy - #13 by Blackbird
