Notesnook CEO Interview with ente

Notesnook did an interview with ente just a few days ago. I really liked to get an insight on what the goals and plans for notesnook are. Before that interview I have never seen the CEO and his ideas before other then in blog posts.

Here is the Invidious Link which works for me:

Short summary:

Standardnotes was an inspiration to create notesnook

Low prices because of Wirkung with 2 Brothers in Pakistan together. Low cost of living.

Goal: Creating a stable product without bugs.

Thoughts on Standardnotes.

Focus on gettung New users from everynote.

Not wanting to sell out to proton.

Wanting to stay independent.

Wanting to create a mid tear subsribtion model which is between free and pro but less expensive.

He said that Notesnook has more then 100.000 users.

Idea to implement Local Ai for better search.

Local Ai Models running on your machine.

But still to give the user the option to use openai or other cloud models, because local models don’t work on mobile devices right now.

He doesn’t run ads because he doesn’t want to support unethical data businesses like google. - only organic growth

Audits are coming.

The Notesnook CEO is really based.

I have used Standardnotes for a long time. But when I discover notesnook I realised that standardnotes is just bad from a productivity and design point of view. The Privacy and encryption in stamdardnotes is great. But as time passed notesnook implemented the same privacy features and more are coming.

Standardnotes stays the same. There are no huge improvements.

The price of standardnotes is also just too expensive to pay if you have a limited budget.

Notesnook is affordable for everyone.

When the new price model is being released its getting even more affordable.

A lot of new features and updates are coming out.

It works great on Fedora and on Graphenos and they are on a lot of different app stores, like F-droid and Flathub available.

I highly recommend you to follow them on mastodon. They don’t spam. Only important announcements.

But you gotta remember, that notesnook is still developing and there may be some minor bugs. Usually they fix it rely quickly if you report it.

The Free Version has everything you need. Unlimited Folders, unlimited subfolders and unlimited notes you can create.

If you don’t use notesnook yet, you have to give it a try.

Has Notesnook been audited yet? That is truly the only thing keeping me away.

Not yet.
If you would have read my post above then you would know.

That’s the next thing they are going to do. It’ s a really high priority for them. (Tells in the interview)

I was once a user of notesnook but actually switched to standard notes due to stability issues and unresponsiveness around that. Perhaps things improved these days.

It’s true that as a newer software which is developed a lot it has issues with stability.
For me that hasn’t been a huge problem yet.
But it’s dedinetely an important thing to know.
It gets better from time to time.

I’m sorry, I missed that line. Hopefully the audit is truly coming soon.

Here am I with an expiring StandardNote account pondering that I could probably do better with a straight offline note taking tool that synchronizes via Syncthing.

I mean during the warez scene days, their readme has some cool ascii art and I could probably take inspiration from that. IIRC, those were lovingly handcrafted ascii art.

Is there no Odysee link ? Invidious link is blocked…

I have had data integrity issues with Notesnook too, especially attachments. So I ended up leaving Notesnook, but trying different solutions at the moment… SilverBullet, Joplin, Standard Notes and Obsidian are currently what I’m experimenting with. Obsidian would have been nice if “Remotely Save” worked well with plugins.

Sadly it’s not open source.

no there isn’t.
But Invidious works now again
