Short description

NordPass is E2EE password manager with nice UI and UX.

Why I think this tool should be added

I just decided to take advantage of their free trial and try this password manager out.

It has a good UI and UX, which is good for newcomers and when trying to get others to start using a password manager.

Another good thing about NordPass is that it’s significantly cheaper than 1Password, and price can be another barrier that prevents people from using a password manager because it’s yet another subscription that they would have to pay for.

I was also surprised that the website and the UI of the apps are available in my native language along with a lot of other languages, which is another huge win for UX, and as far as I can tell, 1Password is English only.

The fact that they are giving so much affiliation money to reviewers mean I can’t find a single honest review. That alone should be a no-go.

Plus, AFAIK, their last audit was in 2020 (source) and 2021 (source)

They are not cheaper. After the first year, the price is 44.85€/year, while 1Password is at 31.8€/year normal price.

They are cheaper because they have a free tier. Also more audits =/= more security. They do get all compliance certifications though.

UI is better than current free recommendations in the 2 days I have tried it. Looks like a nice option  , thanks for suggesting it here Lukas. The language options are nice too!

Privacy policy looks ok too.

How do we check if the reviews are paid or fake outside of declared youtube videos? One of the other recommendations 1Password also seems to have similar outlets cover and review them, so it would be helpful to me to know how to filter.

NordPass does not meet the minimum criterion: “All non-essential telemetry must be optional.” Therefore this topic should be rejected and closed.

Anonymized app usage statistics: We collect statistical information about the activity of your Account: the number of items stored, the date when the item was created, how the password was created (e.g., imported, autosaved, created manually), the strength of your passwords in percentage (e.g., 85% of your passwords are very strong), the strength of your Master Password, the percentage of suggested passwords used, the number of different folders you have in your NordPass vault, and information about the usage of NordPass autofill feature (e.g., disabling it for certain websites and switching the autofill forms manually). This analytical information gives us information on how our application is being used so that we can improve the user experience and the app itself.

So just search “1 Password review” and “Nord Pass review”. Skip every review with no negatives, prominent link displayed.

Also, check the url and the website. If it only reviews affiliation money product, go away.

The first result when you Brave it is NewYork Times recommending it. This isn’t the case for Nord Pass. (NYT is almost the only news outlets with sensible privacy tools recommendations. For example, for VPN they recommend Mullvad as the best choice, and don’t recommend shity ones like Nord and Express)

None of this information is sensitive or includes PII. It’s just basic usage data that can’t be tied to anyone.

What do you expect these “reviewers” to review? They aren’t doing any security or privacy research on NordPass, they’re just reviewing the UI, UX, pricing, etc. Like I and @Anon47486929 said, the UI and UX of NordPass is really good, you can try it yourself.

I can appreciate that this is probably an effort to have the bar for password managers raised by attempting to prove NordPass meets the current requirements.

That being said, “Must not collect more PII than is necessary for billing purposes” is a separate criterion. So while I agree NordPass probably fulfills that criterion, they clearly fall short of the “All non-essential telemetry must be optional” criterion which does not require the telemetry to be PII.

We have no intent on listing a password manager from a company notable for not disclosing security breaches in a timely fashion, and whose marketing consists of paying fidget spinner reviewers to promote their products. NordPass (and, for that matter, NordVPN) may well have lovely user interfaces and a nice design - but that doesn’t mean they should be listed. All of our recommended providers are of better quality than NordPass and accordingly we won’t be listing it on our site.

Okay, this is bad, fair enough.
