Nitter itself is not broken. You could still self-host your own instance. Depending on how much effort its worth to you.

To each their own, but I fail to see the compelling reason to jump through hoops to read people yelling at each other, posting blatant disinformation, and ready Elmoā€™s Ketamine-fueled rants.

Twitter seems to ā€œeasiestā€ platform for people to quit. Reddit has dedicated, niche communities that can be hard to replace. Facebook and Instagram have the ā€œfamily and friends lock-inā€ problem.

Twitter has none of that and seems easy to either stop using altogether or find one of the (more private) alternatives like Mastodon.

It has some legitimately useful news sources. For instance a lot of the OSINT accounts can have big events before it hits normal news sites.

Also some of my favorite automotive journalists post about their latest reviews there.

I can easily live without access to Twitter (Iā€™ve never had an account), but it is annoying some useful info will no longer be accessible.

They require an account on the actual website to view a lot of tweets. Thereā€™s a lot of info on there from security researchers posting their findings and organizations like GrapheneOS posting announcements and information there, I end up linking to Nitter all the time. Itā€™s a real shame that Twitter is nerfed so hard right now, I donā€™t really understand why they donā€™t just let you view tweets without an account.

I always thought ā€˜cease and desistā€™ was just legal tomfoolery usually used by the powerful to bully the weak into submission. Surprised to see preemptive compliance
