Need Recommendations for EPUB & PDF Reader for iPad

Hi all,

I have hundreds of books in EPUB and PDF formats and want to load them up in my old iPad and continue using it as an e-reader.

Any suggestions for apps you like or know about would be appreciated. Thanks!

The default Books app works fine for those if you want.

I can’t seem to load any offline books I acquired elsewhere onto it on my iPad & have cloud sync with a third party cloud storage provider.

Any suggestions on how to overcome this?

Web browsers also read PDFs just fine. It even has good sandboxing.

Yes. I thought of this and doesn’t work because I do need the app to remember where I stopped reading for it to pick up next time I open the book.

I’ve been working with many PDFs for years, and the best one I’ve used is Documents by Readdle.

I have a 1st gen iPad mini that is running iOS9, and I am able to load books in it by a simple drag and drop to the finder

Stupid question. Does this app have the turning page animation?

It sounds so silly, but for me this feature is a must. I hate pages that just slide. I want to see the page actually turn.

The app unfortunately doesn’t have a true “turning page” animation; the pages only slide sideways. I understand the appeal of a page‑turn animation — I might contact the developers to ask if they’d consider adding it.

Those devices haven’t received any security updates in a long time so I’d be worried about using it…

Is there any reason why you’re using such an old device? Are you keeping it 100% offline at all times?

Out of curiosity, what are your issues with Apple Books?

Yup. Wi-Fi off, airplane mode on. I keep it because it is a good size for reading my non-DRM books. It doesn’t sync with my iCloud account, so there is no danger in poisoning that well.

I’m thinking about buying an ebook reader device that just runs offline and doesn’t need an internet connection.

I also have an old Nook Color that I can slotload with an SD card… you can usually find those for cheap on shopgoodwill.com and/or FB Marketplace.
