Map application - help please

Hi!
I want to use a graphene phone, and I need a maps application for navigation. So, I heard “organic maps” could be one? I need something open-source private that would not allow for spyware to get on my phone. I’m used on google maps so something not too complicated would help. Any recommendations or I’m better off without maps on my phone and instead would be better to get an old gps thing for my car?

Organic Maps is absolutely fantastic so long as you don’t need traffic data. 10/10 would recommend.

can i download this as an apk?

Yes you can here but the best place to get it is really Accrescent.

oh wow very nice thank you! so instead of allowing google play services and downloading aurora store or having to search for apks online… can I just simply download Accrescent on the graphene app store and download selected apps from there?

Yes for the limited selection of apps that are currently available there since it’s currently limited to allowlisted developers. It is an app store so you can only download apps from it’s own selection, it is not a tool like obtanium where you can get apps from lots of different sources.

Manage your expectation. It is a simple map software fully dependent on Open Street Map data, not the full suite of navigation tool replacement you have in mind. I’ve had several instances where I couldn’t find a locally “popular” place so I always have to fall back to Google Map to get the approximate location to Organic Maps.

IIRC it has no voice to prompt you for turns and as what @phnx has said, no real time traffic data. I also fall back to Google Maps for those.

thank you, last thing on accrescent is there an email app or my best choice would be proton apk?

I simply use this method:

Open Gmaps WV
Search your adress
Click it
Tab share button
Open with Organic maps
Make a route

There you go

It’s very helpfull when your searched adress not available on Openstreet map database.

Advice: when my adres not available on Osm database, I usually add it to db from Osmand app with Openstreet map edit extension.

Sorry for my bad english :frowning:

Yok can use obtainium to download protonmail and never deal with manual update

It does actually and goes beyond turns:

Somehow I cant turn mine on right now. I think it requires me to download a language pack of sorts to run text to speech.

For these cases, I’d recommend using DDG’s map section, which uses Apple Maps data.

what OS do you have, Graphene I presume?

Yes.

But I’d rather not have extra apps installed. I can live with no audible turn cues.

Oh ok
because I was gonna say, I use RHVoice to get it working, it’s honestly only one app to get tts working so.
