iOS 26

It has been out for about two hours.

I don’t like it. It looks awful and everything is palpably slower.

  • Links in lockdown mode, even from contacts, still aren’t clickable which is bs.
  • UI elements even keep clipping in and out or animations abruptly starting/ending or colors flickering.
  • Popups on buttons also stick around even after closed.
  • Sometimes when unlocking it is 3 seconds before going back to previous app.
  • When opening a home screen folder the background is first black then after a second goes to your actual background/color.

What has your experience been?

Its literally downloading for me now. Will have to check back in. But thanks for the update, yikes!

I’m waiting to download it on my Mac - isn’t new macOS every time at risk if breaking VPNs?

Also, which iPhone are you on?

I thankfully only use Linux.

My experience has been the same, very annoying. My lock/home screen wallpaper uses the black & white tint setting which just doesn’t seem to work (it works in settings and then doesn’t apply lol). edit: another reboot fixed

I really wish the Reduce Motion setting didn’t make the app switcher so much worse, because everything is very bouncy now.

Only issue I’ve really had is the animation for opening/exiting an app seems to be lower frame rate than it should be for some reason.

Did you try Reduce Motion?

Well I like the animations haha I just wish they ran at the proper frame rate.

I keep hearing pewdiepie’s voice every times I reading it.

Hmm. Seems like Apple’s QA is falling with every new major update.

The disable 2G toggle now is 2G & 3G.

Spatial Scene is a super neat gimmick though!

Ive noticed quite a few performance and battery issues so far (even in the short hour and 30min ive used it my phone is running hot).

I do like the new toggle in privacy and security to better control wired accessories though from locked down mode even if you are not in lockdown mode.

Though the new lock screen clock needs more tint because its unreadable in most cases lol

I really expected the “largest iOS update of all times” to come with the largest assortment of bugs of all times so I went the big :brain: route:

I’ll check back when 26.1 is out in a month.

Yep, I’m also seeing many screens with black text on grey background for some reason.

seriously why is it that every new iOS is buggy. Apple what are you doing man?

Immediately after completing an update, particularly a major release, you might notice a temporary impact on battery life and thermal performance. This is normal, as your device needs time to complete the setup process in the background, including indexing data and files for search, downloading new assets, and updating apps.

It’s also a very good idea to reboot the device about 24h later when these processes are done.

iOS does further maintenance on reboot.

Did not know that. TIL. Thanks for sharing.

Do you know what this further maintenance entails?

Definitely clearing caches and removing files marked for deletion (and there are usually quite a bit of those when the OS boots up the first time with a new version and only the next reboot will get rid of them).

It was immediately overwhelming. But as always, I’m quickly getting used to it. I still think colored app icons in dark mode look very odd, especially on a very dark wallpaper. I switched to tinted icons and they look much more natural. I also think they changed too much about safari’s UI. Other than that, I’m neutral on most visual changes. If there’s any change I love, it’s the keyboard.

Performance during the first hour was…wacky. But it seems totally fine after four hours (iPhone 15).
