Freetube not trusted by Apple

Hi everyone,

I have a concern regarding the security of my devices and would appreciate some insights from the community.

Both of my devices, an iPhone and a MacBook, are connected to the same Apple ID and are in lockdown mode. I also use Mullvad VPN on both devices. Recently, I noticed something unusual.

While using FreeTube on my MacBook and my iPhone, I received a summary notification from Screen Time indicating a potential security warning.

I’m worried about the implications of this. Has anyone experienced something similar? What could this warning signify, and how should I address it?

Thank you for your help!

How exactly are you using Freetube on iOS?

So the devs of freetube haven’t signed their app, which means macOS has no way of verifying that it came from them. That’s why you’re getting that warning. Also means they can’t really properly sandbox it or apply other hardening because those are tied to the signature.

I assume you’re syncing your screen time across your Mac and iOS so that’s probably why you’re getting that warning on iOS as well.

As far as what to do about it, you can’t do anything other than tell the devs to sign their app.

Also tell them to make an ARM version while they’re at it.
