How does Twitter compare to other social media platforms?

Many privacy-advocates and journalists, not to mention whistle-blowers use Twitter (e.g: @snowden) despite having a high threat model level.

Yes, Twitter is accessible from Tor, but I want to know how does it compare to the rest of social media. Are the privacy risks limited to advertisement and preferences data or is it as invasive as FB and IG?

I view all social media as mostly the same, you’re posting things out publicly so it doesn’t matter too much which platform you go with in my opinion.
