Ok so it’s basically Shamir’s secret sharing but you still need your phone password to unlock it. That’s interesting, at least I hope that’s how it works based on what I read. I guess you’d have your regular backup encrypted with whatever service you normally use and then you’d have this distributed recovery method basically? It seems the Google version relies on their Titan security chips really heavily so I wonder how that’s going to work on a Raspberry Pi.
