Hardware wireless keyboards

I’m finding my self in a situation where I need to jump between different computers at various points through out the day and while I have been physically moving a USB cabled keyboard between laptops I am starting to consider a wireless keyboard that would allow switching device at the push of a button rather than moving a cable, as I do with my mouse (logi dongle).

While I am not as concerned with the wireless mouse a move to a wireless keyboard has potentially more risk for snifing.

What would peoples thoughts be on the current state of wireless keyboards and are there pluses/minuses between blutooth and 2.4Ghz dongle options?

Buy a Logitech keyboard that has LIGHTSPEED wireless.

You will get the same latency as with a wired keyboard, and the wireless connection will be encrypted.

Looks interesting. When you sad this will be encrypted, does that mean BT and other 2.4Ghz dongles, logi or not, will be unencrypted?

No Bluetooth has encryption as well.

Thank you both. It looks like from the Logi side also “Bolt” dongles are FIPS rated encrypted.

Would be helpful if they standardized across everything instead of having of having a few options that work with lightning and a few with bolt but non cross supprt :woman_facepalming: Would prefer a 60% keyboard and trackball which looks to be two dongles.

Will go digging into 3rd party but I assume bolt and lightning are proprietary.

depending on your setup and needs, a KVM switch might also work for you. You could keep your wired keyboard and mouse and screen connected to the KVM, and the KVM connected to your different computers. Then switching between computers is just a press of a button in the KVM switch.

I had thought that but there is also a bit of travel with multiple laptops which I did not mention above and also general lack of desk space

Another alternative is to use a KVM? A KVM doesnt need drivers or internet access (I guess unless it is a PiKVM).

I would recommend the Level1Techs KVM. Its actually good and not insanely overpriced (still a bit pricy though).

I keep using wired devices as much as I can.

It’s just too risky knowing that someone can to intercept your keylogs from your keyboard…

Doesn’t matter if it’s encrypted.

I appreciate your reply!

It just seems like you’re leaving yourself open to another method of attack.

Wired is not only safer but also faster

What kind of attack?

Logitech wireless keyboards are on par or even faster than wired alternatives. Unless you go crazy and get a wired Razer keyboard with an insane polling rate.

Do Logitech provide firmware updates for this product?

I only have a mouse but didn’t have any issues with it.
